Here it is in brief:
Samhain is one of eight annual festivals (Earth's Seasons), often referred to as Sabbats, observed on October 31 in the Northern Hemisphere.
Samhain celebrates not only the harvest but the lives of love ones who have passed on. It involves paying respect to ancestors, family members, elders, friends, pets and other beings who have departed.
In some rituals the spirits of the departed are invited to attend the festivities.
It is seen as a festival of darkness, which is balanced at the opposite point of the wheel by the spring festival of Beltane, which is a festival of light and fertility.
